At GIS we recognise how fortunate and lucky we are to lead such privileged lives. We are also very aware that there are many people and organisations much less fortunate than ourselves. For this reason, each term we focus on a particular charity. Over the last few years, organised by Mrs. Filzek, we have raised money for Soi Cat and Dog Rescue (SCAD), a Karen hill-tribe Nursery school and we have 'knitted for the needy'. We raise money and awareness through sponsored swims, mufti days, car-washes and selling goods.

Through a sponsored swim and Mrs. Mary Sirisom's fundraising efforts in the First School we raised 38,000 Baht in the final term of the previous academic year. We pledged the money to Baan Nontapum in Nontaburi, a home for disabled children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. We bought CD/mp3 players and water coolers for each of the five houses. The remaining 11,000 Baht was spent on food; staples such as rice, sugar, oil, cookies, tinned fish and sauce. Members of the SCR (Student Representative Council) accompanied our Thai Principal, Khun Busabong, along with Mrs. Filzek to deliver the donation.

In our 2010/2011 academic year, the responsibility of our charity focus has fallen to the SRC. For the first term, we are sponsoring Love Wildlife (www.lovewildlife.org), an organisation founded by one of our parents which is dedicated to the protection of Southeast Asian wildlife through education and outreach programmes.
